Whose Song?
Ps.137: 4 How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?
It was the kind of international session that made Reggae Sumfest look soft; that made Sting look like “it nah try”. The big shots and “who dat”s from every important country were there. Stone Love hadn’t yet been formed, but the king made sure that sound was no problem. The music was rich and loud. Funny thing is, it was a worship service; but it was directly opposed to the God of Heaven. It was the devil’s worship service. And when the music started to play, just about everybody bowed down to worship Nebuchadnezzar’s image.
Music has always been one of the devil’s most popular and effective tools. It is able to penetrate into your mind even when you are not listening to it. It can affect the chemical balance in your brain and directly influence your mood and also your behaviour. It is difficult to guard against music. (Have you ever found a song in your mind that you just can’t seem to get rid of?)
But there are other things to think about. Some songs are sung by devil worshippers who dedicate their songs to the devil. Those songs have a special evil power about them. Some songs also carry what we call “sublimal messages”, meaning that there are sometimes voices and messages in the song that call evil spirits to come into your life, but they are so soft or are done so cleverly that we don’t even realize it.
There are many people today who feel that any kind of music (rhythm, etc) should be ok for worship as long as the words are right. I ask you: if you came to my house and I gave you some of my soup, served in a brand new Chimmey (bed pan) that had not yet been used, would you accept it? Of course not! Because of what a chimmey is normally used for. Let’s not use the things which are associated with ungodliness as tools to worship God.
The bottom line is, we should be more choosey what we listen to, what recordings we collect, what we use as ring tones for our phones. Some music is really devil’s music and can open us up to be controlled by Satan. Let us choose to “sing the Lord’s song” as we go from day to day.
Dear Lord, please send your Holy Spirit to guide me that I will honour you in my choice of music, in Jesus’ name, amen.
