God does not forget
2 Pet. 2: 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise…but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish...
Did you know that every word spoken to God is heard? At an early age I was introduced to the “Sabbath Message”. I went to church, but only because my father insisted that I should. As soon as I became an “adult”( i.e. age 18), I announced to my parents that as I was now an adult I would be making my own decisions. One of those decisions was to leave the church.
What a mess that turned out to be!!! During one of the parties a friend who knew my background asked if I would go back to church. I said, "Yes, I will when I have my own place and when I get to that certain age of 25".
Naturally, I forgot all about that promise. I got my own place, a good job and what I thought was a good time. Then one day I got up and lost my desire to smoke. A year later I lost the appetite to drink. Everyone, including me, thought it strange. Then one year later there was a crusade in Greater Portmore. The Bible workers invited me but I had too much to do. You see I was studying and had failed the exam so I needed to put in more work. In the first week of the crusade my neighbour who isn't a Christian decided to visit the evangelist who is a childhood friend and asked me to accompany her. Reluctantly, I relented and accompanied her.
I attended the crusade for the 4 weeks following that night, gave my life to the Lord and aced my exams. I was 25.
It was only afterwards that I remembered the conversation where I, in essence, promised God that I would return to him at age 25.
God hears our prayers even when they are spoken in jest. His desire is to save us. No matter how long it takes or how far from Him we have gone He reaches out loving hands to save us from ourselves. God does not forget us. What He does forget is our sins and remembers them no more.
2 Peter 2: 9 says “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (KJV).
Lord, thank you for always remembering me and for reaching out to save me even when I don’t deserve it, in Jesus’ name, amen.
