My Personal God

Matt. 16: 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

What does God look like? Do you know? I don’t think so. We know things about Him but even those things leave us with many questions. Nobody has really seen Him. He is a Spirit. He is so large He fills the whole universe. He is so complicated we can’t understand Him. We don’t know where He came from. We can’t figure out why He does the things He does. He is so wise, so good, so everything…!

And yet we need to know God. Jesus said in St. John 17: 3 that knowing Him leads to eternal life. He wants us to know Him. He is constantly revealing Himself to us, through the things that He has made, through His word, through Jesus Christ. But He speaks to each of us in special ways through the things that happen in our lives. In this way each of us can get our own glimpse of God and know Him for ourselves. Like the blind men touching the elephant, each of us will get our own picture of what He is like.

So for Abraham God was the Promise Keeper; for Moses He was the Great Deliverer; for Daniel He was the Revealer of Secrets; for Naomi, He was the Husband of the widow and Father of the fatherless; For Mary Magdalene He was the God of Mercy’ for the little children of Israel He was the Children’s Friend; for Blind Bartimeus, He was the Healer; and for the five thousand hungry people on the hillside, He was the Provider. He is always the same God, the Bible says He does not change; yet He is different and special to each person, your own personal God.

So, who do you say that He is? Is He your personal God? Is He your Protector, your Healer, your Defender, the Answerer of your questions, your Guide when you are confused? You will not know till you give Him a chance to reveal Himself to you. For me, He is the “Always God”; always kind, always forgiving, always good, always there! Hey, Talk to Him today, share your life with Him and experience Him for yourself. Then you will be able to tell of your personal God. One thing that everybody who knows Him will always tell you: God is good.

Lord, today I want you to go through this day with me that I can discover for myself who you really are, in Jesus’ name, amen.
