He’s Everything

Rev. 21: 6 And He said to me, “…I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.

Big Bird from Sesame Street sang the song “abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz, that’s the longest word I’ve had ever seen”. Of course, you realize that the song was just a fun way to teach the alphabet. Even serious things can be learned and considered in fun ways. In today’s text, God declares Himself to be alpha and omega. Alpha is the first letter in the Greek alphabet (the New Testament was written in Greek), and omega is the last letter. In our situation God would have said “I am A and Z”. But what does that mean? It means He is the most important Person in life; He is at its beginning and at its end. We can be born only if God gives us life and when we die only He can make us live again. He is the Beginning and the End.

But you know, a better way to say it would probably be “I am A to Z”, because God is not only at the beginning and end of our lives but at every moment throughout our lives. We, therefore, should not do like some people and wait until we think we are near the end of our lives to surrender to God. He’s shouldn’t just be A and Z, but all the other letters in between – the entire alphabet. So let’s have some fun. If God is my alphabet what could each letter mean?

A He’s awesome (you knew that one was coming, right?)
B Beautiful (Though we’ve never seen Him)
C Constant (always there, never changing)
D Dependable
E Everlasting
F Faithful
G Gracious
H Holy
I Invincible
J Just
K Kind
L Loving (you expected that as well)
M Marvelous
N Never-failing Friend
O Omnipresent
P Powerful
Q Quick to answer our prayers
R Righteous
S Strong
T Teacher
U Unmoveable
V Vigilant
W Wise
X ‘Xceptional
Y Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Z Zealous

Okay, so maybe I didn’t do so great on some of them, but as you go throughout the day and think about our wonderful God, maybe you can come up with some words that say more accurately who God is to you. Whatever your words are, I hope you will find Him to be what He really is: your A, Z and every letter in between!

Lord, help me today to remember that at every moment and in every situation you are with me, in Jesus’ name, amen.
