Gifted to Serve
1 Cor. 12: 4-11 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit...distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Most people are aware that they have a talent, but not necessarily a spiritual gift. You can have one or the other or both. Talents are natural abilities given to us by God through our parents and spiritual gifts are gifts, given to us by God, that we were not necessarily born with. Simply put, “natural gifts are given at birth, while spiritual gifts are given at our spiritual birth. Though God gives us both, only Christians receive spiritual gifts.”These gifts are given by the Holy Spirit.
Everyone, including you, has been given a gift so that they can serve. Talents and spiritual gifts should be used at all cost to do the work given to us by Christ in Matt. 28:19, 20: “Go ye therefore and teach all nations”. After you have identified your talents and spiritual gifts you should join with others to use those gifts to reach those who have not yet become members of God’s church.
If your talent is the ability to sing, or if you have double joints [hypermobility]; if you are bright academically or you were born with an excellent memory; if you have acting ability or know how to play an instrument without instruction; or if your spiritual gift is to prophesy, to heal, to speak in tongues, to pastor, to teach etc.; then you are equipped to prepare other people to be part of the Kingdom of God.
At home, at school, at play and at work you need to use your gift. This is why God has blessed you with it. Inspire, motivate, and encourage everyone with whom you come in contact by using your talents and/or your spiritual gifts. Do not hide it or it will be taken away (Matt. 25: 14-30). Use it so that someone can have access to eternal life. God is depending on you.
Lord, thank you for the gifts and talents you have given to me. Please help me to use them to bring others to you, in Jesus’ name, amen.
